HOMELAND SECURITY DISTASTER PROCLAMATION FOR PALO ALTO IOWA

On May 20, 2026, Governor Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for eight northern Iowa counties- Emmet, Hancock, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Winnebago, Woodbury, and Worth- following severe weekend storms. The Disaster Proclamation is a formal declaration by the state, often in coordination with the US Department of Homeland Security. That a specific area is experiencing disaster conditions. It activates state resources that can open the door to federal disasters assistance under the Stafford act.
Duration: 30 days May 20-June 19, 2026
Purpose: Allows state resources to aid recovery and activates the Individual Assistance Grant Program.
Grants: Up to $7000 for households with incomes under 200% of the federal poverty level
Uses: Home/car repairs, replacement of personal property, food, and temporary housing.
Requirements: Original receipts for reimbursable expenses
